Privacy policy

Last updated: 1 November 2026

In short: Luma Reader has no accounts, no advertising and no analytics. Your library, reading progress, statistics and settings are stored only on your phone. Our server is contacted only when you import a link or a PDF, or use Discover, and it does not keep what you send.

1. Who is responsible

The data controller for Luma Reader and this website is Julien Mery (sole trader), 10 place du Village, 38180 Seyssins, France — SIREN 820 603 397. Contact: junit38@gmail.com.

2. What stays on your phone

This data never leaves your device and we cannot see it. Uninstalling the app or clearing its storage deletes it permanently; there is no cloud copy.

3. What is sent to Luma's server

Luma's server (api.lumareader.org) is only contacted when you use these features:

The server returns the result and does not store your links, files or searches. Like any web server, it sees your IP address in order to answer; it keeps it in memory for at most one minute to limit abuse and does not write it to any log. The server does not keep access logs.

Legal basis: these requests are needed to provide the feature you asked for (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR); the short-lived rate limit protects the service against abuse (legitimate interest, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Hosting

The server is hosted by Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL (Amazon Lightsail) in its Paris region, France. AWS acts as a processor and only provides the infrastructure.

4. Services the app contacts directly

These services receive your IP address when your phone contacts them, under their own privacy policies. Luma does not send them anything else about you.

5. Screen reading (Android accessibility service)

The optional "Luma screen reading" service lets the floating reader read an article shown in another app. It reads the text on your screen only when you tap ▤ on the floating reader, and only to show that text in the reader. The text stays on your phone; it is not stored or sent anywhere unless you choose to save it to your library (which is also on your phone). The app explains this and asks for your agreement before you turn the service on, and you can turn it off at any time in your phone's accessibility settings.

6. Permissions

7. This website

lumareader.org sets no cookies, uses no analytics or trackers, and loads no fonts or scripts from other sites. The web server does not keep access logs.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify and erase your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. Since we store no personal data about you, there is usually nothing for us to return or delete, but you can write to junit38@gmail.com with any question. You can also lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL.

9. Children

Luma Reader is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect their personal data.

10. Changes

If Luma starts handling data differently, this policy will be updated here with a new date. Significant changes will also be announced in the app.
